Cataract Causes & Symptoms

Cataracts are most often caused by the breakdown of normal proteins of the eye as we age. These cataracts develop slowly. Patients with diabetes and those with family members who have cataracts are more prone to developing them. Eye injuries, eye surgery, and radiation treatments can also cause cataracts. Some medications may cause the early formation of cataracts. These types of cataracts may develop more quickly.

Symptoms of cataracts include: blurry vision, seeing double, seeing colors as faded or yellow, having a sensitivity to light, and difficulty seeing well at night or in low light.
